Recently, we had the privilege of bringing Delaware home care advocate Wayne D. and his family to the Philadelphia Flyers game. Wayne has received home health aide and skilled nursing services since he sustained a devastating spinal cord injury in a car accident ten years ago. But Wayne does not allow his physical limitations to stop him from helping others. Once he is set up in his wheelchair, Wayne is determined to stay independent and help others in the disability community – including getting involved in our advocacy efforts! And to thank him for his advocacy, H4HC invited him and his family to a Flyers game, where they met former Flyers players, met Gritty, and enjoyed the game from Club-level seats.
During the day, Wayne consults with medical companies on technology designs to help other individuals with physical disabilities. He is also heavily involved with supporting others in the disability community. “I try to give back and help others by showing them that it’s not the end. I want them to know that there are others like them out there, and that life gets better,” he says.
Wayne’s experience led to 6ABC coverage and a Daily State News article, which further enhances H4HC’s advocacy efforts, as coverage is shared with key lawmakers to showcase the importance of home care in allowing individuals to be a part of their communities.
